My current project involves the design and testing of a computationally efficient, parallelizable numerical sea ice model (CICE), that will serve as one component of a global climate model, along with POP, a global ocean circulation model developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and atmosphere and land models as part of the Community Climate System Model from the National Center for Atmospheric Research. CICE incorporates ice thermodynamics, ice and snow transport, and an elastic-viscous-plastic dynamics model of the ice.
I spend most of my time in front of a computer, but when the opportunity arose to actually see and touch the stuff I model, off I went... Many thanks to Steve Ackley, the British Antarctic Survey and the Her Majesty's Royal Navy! Here's the Scoop.
